Email looked exactly like Coinbase. Said unusual activity detected. Clicked link, entered 2FA codes. Hacker drained wallet of 0.4 BTC ($18,000). Real Coinbase never asks for 2FA codes via email.
Got DM on Reddit claiming someone hired hitman for me, can call it off for $5,000 Bitcoin. Obviously fake but sent threatening photos of my house from Google Street View. Reported to FBI.
Matched with someone claiming to be US soldier deployed overseas. Built relationship for 3 months. Asked for money for leave paperwork, then medical emergency, then flight home. Total scammed: $12,000. Photos were stolen from Instagram.
